Kaikoura is a small coastal town on the east coast of the South Island of New Zealand. Situated in southern coastal Marlborough about half way between Christchurch and Blenheim, this area of New Zealand is famed for its seafood. Kaikoura lies on a narrow coastal plain between high mountains and the Pacific Ocean. In places along this coast the mountains drop almost straight into the sea, with barely enough flat land for a single railway line, two lane road and rocky beach to be accommodated and even then some short tunnels are needed on corners.

A town that really comes alive in the winter months, Methven is a base for the popular Mount Hutt Ski-field. During the rest of the year the township is well known as one of the best hot air ballooning locations in the country as well as the other activities you would expect from a rural New Zealand location such as tramping, fishing and mountain biking.

Aoraki Mount Cook National Park is dominated by the peaks of Aoraki Mount Cook, New Zealand's highest mountain as well as Mount Tasman. There are several other high peaks of the South Island's, Southern Alps nearby. The park is renowned for its natural environment. Take only pictures and leave only footprints is a good rule to follow. From Twizel there is an all weather sealed road to the Mount Cook village. Mount Cook airport is down the road from the village.

Currently there are two active webcams in Arthur's Pass village (looking north & west) from the same location. The above image represents a HD wide angle view looking north from Arthur's Pass Village towards Arthur's Pass proper (920m) with ridges running west (left) towards Avalanche Peak and Mt Rolleston (Rome & Goldney). Treeline is at about 1500m. The image is updated every 15 minutes.

This camera is hilltop mounted above Twizel, the closest major town to Mt Cook. The webcam images provide panoramic views of Mt Cook and Lake Pukaki. This camera is mounted on an elevated pole on a mountain ridge line. The camera is therefore susceptable to high winds. During high winds the camera will shake and the images may blur.
